You might have heard that from November East Herts Council is changing the way we collect your waste and recycling.
The new scheme is called ARC which stands for Alternate Refuse Collections. It will allow you to recycle lots more materials at your kerbside.
You’ll be able to add food waste and cardboard to any garden waste in your brown bin. And we’ll give you a new blue box to put your plastic bottles and cans in, alongside your green box for paper and glass. Because you’ll be putting much less waste in your black bin, we will be collecting it once a fortnight. And in the alternate week we’ll collect your brown bin, together with your blue and green boxes. So you will be receiving a collection of waste every week but one week it will be your black bin and the next week it will be your recycling boxes and brown bin. We’ll be delivering a leaflet to every house affected by the changes giving you details of what materials you can put in each bin or box and your collection dates. Why is East Herts Council introducing ARC? In recent years we’ve increased the amount we recycle but we need to do more. Residents have said they want to recycle more from their kerbside so this scheme will allow everyone to do that. It will reduce the amount going for disposal which will benefit the environment. And it will reduce costs which will help control council tax bills. The council’s Executive member for environment and conservation, Terence Milner said: “Once you’re in the swing of ARC, it really will be straightforward. As our slogan says - Think twice, make it second nature.” To find out more information and ask questions about ARC please come to Stocking Pelham Village Hall on Monday 7 September at 7pm where a representative of East Herts Council will talk to you about the scheme.
