"The New Year has started as the old one finished, with snow covered fields, transport infrastructure severely tested and the novelty of a White Christmas wearing thin. However, it was extremely pleasing to see instances of Community spirit as we all dealt with the inclement weather, whether it be getting essential shopping for those members of our community less fortunate or able, or, in the case of Cottered, opening the village hall as a refuge for those travellers stranded in the snow overnight on the 17th December. My sincere thanks to those of you who contributed and minimised the additional workload for the staff at Buntingford.
2009 saw the team maintain its momentum in reducing crime. Indeed, Buntingford and its surrounding areas are currently showing the largest percentage drop in recorded crime in the county, currently standing at 22.4% from 1st April to date. That equates to 98 fewer victims of criminality."

Furneux Pelham Parish Council has received a planning application for the Pallets Unlimited site at Barleycroft End. The plans entail removal of the existing buildings and storage, to be replaced by housing of a mixed nature.
Meeting is on Thursday 21 January 2010 at Furneux Pelham Village Hall where plans will be on display and councillors will be in attendance to hear your views. |
The Police Authority has started to review its policing priorities and to consider the level of Council Tax that it will set next year in order to deliver them.
Crime has fallen steadily in Hertfordshire over the past five years and the percentage of crimes detected has risen.
However, a large percentage of our funding comes from Government grants but these have not kept pace with the rising costs and are expected to reduce even further from 2011.
In the past, we have used money from our reserves to reduce the shortfall but that is becoming increasingly more difficult.
