Furneux Pelham has had the village sign repaired which is now back on the inside of the bend opposite the old Blacksmith's house.

Mrs Brunner, who comissioned the sign, insists that Furneaux should be spelt with an 'a'.  In actual fact there are many spellings including Furnix, Furnicks, Furneaux and the one adopted by Hertfordshire County Council as 'Furneux' for at least 50 years.

Pronunciation is another issue - Some favour 'furn-oh' and others 'furnicks'.  Pronunciation of a place name is usually a matter of history and local dialect and you will find without doubt that people who have lived here the longest and still have the old rural Hertfordshire twang will pronounce it 'furnicks' with a hint of an East Anglian almost Norfolk accent.

One side depicts the Star Pub (now a residential home) and the Brewery (also  now a residential development)

The other side has Furneaux Pelham Hall and the village Anglican church St Mary the Virgin.
